Scanning Tables

The scanning tables formerly known as DESY tables are widely used by external users in various experiments in the North Area. As the old tables (Figure 1) lack the required rigidity, positional accuracy and CE conformity norms, our team embarked on a mission of re-designing and building new ones. At first, we launched a DO to potential companies that may have been able to construct them. This price enquiry failed due to the high cost that was demanded or lack of interest from these companies. The only solution was to build it ourselves. Currently, we are working on a conceptual design with Bosch profiles, structural analysis and cost estimation of these tables and we aim to produce a great result that will serve faithfully the user’s needs for many years to come.

XTAX

The XTAX table is a real challenge for our team. Installed since more than 25 years, these tables suffer from their ages: Water leak, change of the motor in 2011, need to grease every year.

Since 2021 we work on a new version of this table. The main challenge is to remove all the knowing problematics that we had during the 20 pasts years while keeping its reliability and precision. This year we had a huge effort to modelized these table in CAD. A lot of drawings are lost, and the zone is extremely radioactive which makes it difficult to access. Next, we aim

to fix all the maintain problematics to save a lot of time/money and radioactive dose for our teammates.
